Eastern Maumee Bay, The Gateway to Recreation and Wildlife
The Eastern Maumee Bay region includes East Toledo, Oregon, Northwood, Walbridge, Lake Township, Jerusalem Township and beyond. We are rich in history as a part of the Great Black Swamp of the past and current efforts to restore Black Swamp wetlands. There is so much to see and do all through the year. This region is the host to the Biggest Week in American Birding each May. We celebrate local ethnic heritage at the Hungarian Festival and German American Festival. Our civic pride explodes at local church and community festivals including Walbridge Fest, Oregon Fest, Boom Fest and the Northwood Fall Festival. Nature and wildlife can be viewed from many community, county, state and federally managed areas. There are several community parks, walkways and byways dotting the area. Pearson Park and Howard Marsh, managed by the Toledo Metroparks, are a treat for families, fitness enthusiasts and nature lovers. Maumee Bay State Park is situated on Lake Erie and boasts a campground, miles of trails, lodge and conference center, golf course and nature center. Bird watchers flock to Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge and Magee Marsh in search of local and rare birds. Lake Erie is known for world renowned perch and walleye fishing. Oregon is home to one of the 24 remaining drive-in theatres of Ohio. Eastern Maumee Bay is the perfect location to enjoy the outdoors every season of the year. Eastern Maumee Bay is the Gateway to Recreation and Wildlife.
